Upon your arrival, an African Safari Tour Holidays safari guide will meet you and give you an overview of your 5 Days Best of Rwanda Gorilla safari and Lake Kivu Safari before you depart for Volcanoes National Park which is located in the northwest region of Rwanda. While traveling, you will be treated to breathtaking views of homesteads, rolling hills, and other landscapes. Upon arrival at the park you will check into the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.
Following an early breakfast, you will carry your packed lunch and head to the park headquarters for a briefing about dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking experience. Following you will be divided into groups of 8 individuals and each group will be allocated a gorilla family to trek and an experienced armed ranger guide. These gorilla groups are allocated according to level of fitness, age, and health among other factors. Gorilla trekking in volcanoes national park starts at 8:00am and usually lasts for 2 to 8 hours depending on the location of these gentle giants on the tracking day as they like moving in search of food. Once a gorilla family you were allocated is located you will spend an hour with them in their natural habits and this could be your chance to take photos, record videos and also witness them as they are going through their daily activities like feeding, breastfeeding, playing among others. Following an hour with these amazing primate species you will trek back to the starting point and meet your safari guide to embark on your journey back to the lodge for evening relaxation dinner and overnight stay.
Today after an early breakfast you will meet your safari guide and drive to park headquarters for a briefing about the golden monkey trekking experience. Following the briefing, you will be assigned an experienced park guide who has extensive knowledge of the forest's trails to lead you in the jungle. Just like gorilla trekking, golden monkey trekking also is done once a day and starts at 8:00am and the trekking can go anywhere from 1 to 4 hours and once they are allocated you have an hour to spend in their natural habits. You will also be allowed to take photos, record videos and witness them as they are going through their daily activities. After an hour of experience you will trek back to the starting point and meet your safari guide to drive back to the lodge for lunch. Following lunch, you'll embark on a cultural tour, you will visit the Ibyi'wacu cultural village where you will have the chance to interact with the locals, sample traditional Rwandan cuisine, learn how to make beer locally from bananas, take in Kinyarwanda songs, dances, music, and drama, and hear ancient stories, among other experiences. You will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight after the cultural tour.
Following an early breakfast, you will depart the lodge and meet your safari guide to embark on your transfer to Gisenyi, where you will take a boat ride on Lake Kivu, Rwanda's largest freshwater lake. You will interact with fishermen who will be fishing in dugout canoes and take part in various activities along the lakeshore, such as swimming, sunbathing, and speed boating, and canoeing, among others. During the boat cruise, you will have spectacular views of the steep terraced hills, beautiful scenery, and the sunset. Following your incredible lake experience, you will return to your lodge for dinner and the night.
On the final day of your safari, you will have a leisurely breakfast, check out of the lodge, and meet your safari guide for the Kigali city tour. During the city tour, you will visit the Kigali genocide memorial center, where you will learn about the 1994 Rwanda genocide between the Hutus and Tutsis. You will also visit Kandt museum. Following the city tour, you'll head to one of the local restaurants for lunch, where you can sample some of Rwanda's cuisine, before continuing to Kigali international airport to catch your flight back to your home country.
